IGS-HF Conducted Fire Safety Drill and Training

With the support of the Fire and Rescue Brigade of the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, IGS-HF recently held a comprehensive fire safety drill and training session. The aim was to raise fire safety awareness and strengthen the emergency evacuation, risk prevention and self-rescue skills of all students, teachers and staff.

Ahead of the drill, the General Affairs Department and the School Safety Coordinator, Mr Anton Vidmar, led a preparatory meeting to clarify the responsibilities of each team and ensure thorough planning.

The drill began when the emergency alarm sounded. The Evacuation Guidance Team worked alongside homeroom teachers to guide students quickly and calmly along designated routes to the assembly point in the school car park. The Logistics Support Team promptly switched off the campus power supply to reduce potential risks, while the Medical Response Team remained on standby throughout with first-aid kits and an AED in case of emergency.

Once at the assembly point, each class immediately completed a headcount and reported up through the communication chain to our Head of School, Ms Heide Schaffer, ensuring that everyone was accounted for.

Following the evacuation, firefighters delivered practical training on fire safety equipment, explaining how fire extinguishers work and demonstrating correct use. During the hands-on practice, both teachers and students took an active role, using the equipment to extinguish simulated fires under supervision.

This drill reflects our strong commitment to campus safety and has further strengthened our community’s understanding of why fire safety matters. Going forward, we will continue to refine our emergency procedures, strengthen safety awareness, and ensure a safe and secure learning environment for everyone at IGS-HF.
