Mid-Autumn Festival Kindergarten Activity

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is one of the most cherished traditions in Chinese culture. Celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, this festival represents unity and family reunion, as it falls at a time when the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Traditionally, families gather to admire the moon together, enjoy delicious mooncakes, and explore the legends associated with this beautiful festival, one of which is the tale of Chang’e, the Moon Goddess.

In our Kindergarten the children were introduced to the beautiful traditions that define this festival. They learned about the significance of the full moon, which symbolizes completeness and togetherness in Chinese culture. To honor this important cultural celebration, our wonderful Chinese teacher led the children in a delightful and creative craft activity. The project of the day; Making their very own colorful Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns!

With great patience and clarity, our teacher guided the children step-by-step through the process. Little hands focused intently, folding, cutting, and decorating, transforming simple materials into beautiful, shining lanterns. This hands-on activity was more than just a craft; it was a wonderful exercise in fine motor skills, listening, and following instructions.

At the end of the activity, the excitement in the room was visible as the children proudly showcased their beautiful lanterns. With smiles bright as the moon, they shouted, “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!” This joyful expression resonated through our kindergarten, inspiring an atmosphere of celebration and unity. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to all!
