Recently, our Cambridge Pathway learners shared their End-of-Unit Presentations—a confident, creative showcase across subjects. A highlight: Year 1 student presented in English after just four weeks of lessons. His courage and clarity made the whole community proud.

Why this matters
Presentations build public speaking, clear thinking and teamwork. Learners explain ideas, field questions and reflect on what moved their work forward—practices that align with the Cambridge learner attributes (confident, reflective, engaged).

Introducing Discovery Pathways
From this term, Discovery Pathways offers children extended time to explore deeply while giving them real ownership of their learning. Each day includes three learning periods. On three days each week, these periods are devoted to one core subject such as English, Mathematics or Science. During this time, pupils work through sequenced checklists that follow the Cambridge curriculum, with clear goals and examples to guide them.
What makes this approach special is the agency it gives children. On focus days they can choose the topics that interest them most, how they want to show their understanding, whether by creating a poster, building a model or giving a short talk, and how they use their time. On other days, when there is no set subject focus, they have the freedom to work on activities from the checklist at their own pace. This way, children not only gain solid skills in the core subjects but also learn how to take charge of their own learning, make decisions with confidence and see themselves as active, capable learners.

Humanities & Global Perspectives
Beyond the core subjects, IGS Hefei ensures that students also explore the Humanities, where values of international-mindedness and global thinking are emphasised. By engaging with these perspectives, students not only understand the world better but also develop the mindset of responsible, open-minded global citizens.

What this means for your child
- clearer expectations and success criteria shared at home
- more confident speaking and presenting
- visible progress checkpoints every half-term

We’ll share termly highlights and invite families to selected showcases.
Through regular presentations, purposeful reflection and genuine choice in Discovery Pathways, learners have a real say in their learning—every week, not just on showcase days.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have questions about the Cambridge programme at IGS or our Discovery Pathways, our team is happy to help.
