VfL Wolfsburg 80th Anniversary Football Carnival & Watch Party

On 18 October, the VfL Wolfsburg 80th Anniversary Football Carnival & Match Viewing Party took place at the International German School Hefei.

The event was co-hosted by VfL Wolfsburg and IGS Hefei, with kind support from Daofengzhigu, Chuhang Technology, Volkswagen Group (Anhui) and the Bundesliga. Combining family activities, friendly fixtures and a live match screening, the evening was a warm celebration of VfL Wolfsburg’s 80 years.

Youth Match & Adult Tournament

We kicked off with the “Future Stars” five-a-side youth match. Our young players ran their hearts out, linking play neatly and finishing with confidence—showcasing real passion and energy.

They were followed by the five-a-side adult tournament, where sharp skills and slick teamwork made for a gripping contest that kept the crowd fully engaged.

Celebrating 80 Years

Before the live screening, guest speakers marked the club’s 80-year journey.

Ms Jessie Wu, Executive President of IGS Hefei, shared:
“The core values of football—teamwork, respect and perseverance—are the very values we live by at IGS. That’s why tonight is more than just a game; it’s a celebration of our community—a gathering of our school, our families and our partners.”

Ms Na Liu, General Manager of VfL Wolfsburg China, said:
“VfL Wolfsburg’s development over 80 years owes much to our partners and fans. We will continue to deepen youth training and football culture programmes in China, and we look forward to launching a new cooperation plan in Hefei to bring professional football experiences to more young people.”

Bundesliga Watch Party

As evening fell, guests mingled in a relaxed atmosphere, raising a toast to the anniversary. German favourites—sausages and beer—added a friendly, authentic touch.

A video message recorded by VfL players set the tone before the live broadcast of VfL Wolfsburg vs VfB Stuttgart. Every attack, tackle and save drew cheers,  earning thunderous applause.

A pre-match score-prediction activity got everyone into the spirit early, and a half-time prize draw kept the energy high throughout.

The campus buzzed with football culture and community spirit, strengthening links between the school, our families and our partners.

Looking ahead, we will continue to work closely with VfL Wolfsburg. Through a rich programme of sports activities, we aim to connect the values of football—unity and teamwork—with IGS Hefei’s holistic, enquiry-driven approach, helping our campus remain a place where the spirit of sport can truly thrive.
