Last month, we were able to introduce an important tool of our pedagogical work while diving into an exciting new project.
During our first children’s conference, we introduced the children to the idea of a conference (an important group discussion) and to the basic principles of democratic voting. In our circle time, we collected topics that the children were interested in exploring at kindergarten. Using small marbles as voting tokens, the children cast their votes—a playful first experience with participation, decision-making, and responsibility.

The choice was clear: the children voted for the topic “Airplanes and Travel.” We took this interest and developed a rich and varied educational project. To introduce the topic, the children learned finger plays and songs about airplanes — in both German and English. This created a familiar and playful entry point while also fostering bilingual language development.

A special highlight was the surprise airmail: a paper airplane landed in our morning circle, carrying a letter from Captain Finn, who invited the children into an ongoing, imaginative adventure. The children enthusiastically took on the roles of engineers and designers.

This project brought great joy to both the children and our team. With enthusiasm, creativity, and persistence, the children explored, built, experimented, and developed their own solutions.
