A Touch of Home

Our traditional German Christmas market enchanted the school community

The air was filled with the scent of cinnamon, delicious popcorn, and freshly baked pretzels. On Saturday, our school grounds transformed into a cozy microcosm that captured the magic of a traditional German Christmas market. Under the warm glow of countless lights, families and friends of IGS came together to celebrate the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year.

At the lovingly decorated wooden stalls, there were tasty bratwursts, children’s punch, sweet cotton candy, and fresh Christmas baked goods to satisfy both small and big appetites. In the center, a crackling campfire invited everyone to warm up and soak in the cozy atmosphere.

The stage program, showcasing the musical diversity of our school, set the artistic tone for the evening. The youngest children from the U6 group passionately opened with festive songs. Our elementary school classes and the school choir gave goosebumps with classic Christmas carols, while captivating performances by our school bands brought modern sounds to the evening.

But the idyllic market offered more than just treats and music. There were lovingly prepared activities for all ages, ranging from a craft station for Christmas ornaments and candle-dipping to face painting with winter-themed designs.

“It feels a bit like home,” said a mother, standing by the fire with a cup of mulled wine. “This familiar, warm atmosphere, everyone knows each other, the children running around happily—
it’s a piece of home.” A father added, “You can really feel how much heart and soul went into this event. It’s truly special.”

As the evening drew to a close and the lights faded, it became clear that this Christmas market was more than just a school event. It marked a successful start to the reflective holiday season and once again highlighted the special sense of community at our school. We are already looking forward to next year.
