Many of our parents are familiar with the feeling: a new job, changed procedures, different languages, and cultural impressions that need to be processed initially. For our new administrative staff, too, the first day at work was certainly a special occasion – where expectations and intercultural impressions from our campus had an impact.
First, our Head of School, Heide Schaffer, the Executive President, Jessie Wu and Deputy Head of School, Tobias Steier, welcomed all the new employees with a speech and a small welcome package.
It is very important to us that the administration, the pedagogical team, parents, and students see themselves as part of the school community and work together from the beginning on the implementation of the school’s philosophy. Efficient administration is the foundation for smooth teaching opera

01. Rethinking Learning
Many of us still remember schools with concrete schoolyards, classrooms with symmetrically arranged desks, a blackboard, and a school cafeteria that resembled factory canteens. IGS is setting new standards here: Even when you enter the campus, you see trees, green hills, an adventure playground with a working water pump. There is even a fountain here. The children should feel comfortable and explore. Whether in the amphitheater, in the sand at the water play area, or the meeting corners in the school building – the students of IGS should try things out, be creative, talk to each other, develop friendships, and become independent. Here at IGS, teachers see themselves as learning facilitators for the students.

02. The Atrium
Bright and open – the modern architectural design extends over several floors. Here you will also find the entrance to the multi-functional theater, which offers space for 600 guests. Concerts, conferences, themed film evenings, and theater performances are already being planned for the upcoming school year.

03. Flexible Learning Spaces
The room acts on the children like a third educator – according to the kindergarten teachers. Properly furnished, the room naturally stimulates children’s learning, with each child, each learning group, and each age group having different requirements for the learning environment. This requires flexible learning architecture, such as furniture that can be combined to create different work areas.

04. Digital Classrooms
IGS works with both classic teaching materials and interactive whiteboards, digital textbooks, notebooks, and tablets. However, acquiring writing skills with a pen is still a very important part of elementary school instruction due to the multi-sensory experience of writing – explain the elementary school teachers. But especially for students who start without German or English language skills, digital applications offer completely new possibilities for supporting foreign language acquisition at different language levels. Of course, it is important to be knowledgeable in the digital world. Nevertheless, IGS relies on modern didactics, where digital and analog technologies complement each other meaningfully and side effects of digitization are addressed. The administration and pedagogical departments are also digitally connected. Relevant programs were presented to the new administrative staff in small workshops.

05. Holistic Education and Healthy Nutrition
School is a place for living and learning. Students should try themselves out in very different areas here. Sports, art, and music are just as much a part of a holistic education program as skills in mathematics, philosophy, economics, and the natural sciences. An aesthetic sensibility, a personal style, authenticity, social skills, and conscious nutrition also belong to a holistically educated personality.
There is a Healthy Food Policy at IGS. It is important to the school that children get enough exercise and enjoy high-quality food in a good atmosphere.
A wonderful cafeteria with a terrace and a view of the garden is available for students and staff. Our new employees were able to convince themselves of the culinary quality with pumpkin-quinoa soup and French beef stew. In this environment, all the new team members quickly started talking to each other.

“The most valuable thing we can give a child is love and a good education.”
