At our school, we offer a comprehensive educational programme designed to provide a well-rounded education that meets international standards. The programme  is enriched with bilingual (German-English) instruction, STEAM initiatives, foreign language teaching,  and innovative learning landscapes, 

Through our proven side-entry programme, students with limited German language skills can seamlessly integrate into our school community and receive the support they need to succeed.

Our curriculum is rooted in the rigorous German education system, ensuring a strong foundation in core subjects for grades 1-10. For our students in grades 11 and 12, it is planned to implement the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, which is recognised as a university entrance qualification in Germany and abroad.

To foster a well-rounded education, the German curriculum is complemented with additional supplementary subjects  and activities  that support balanced development.
German Curriculum (K-10)
Our foundational curriculum follows German educational standards, providing rigorous academic training that ensures continuity and stability. This program equips students with essential skills, values  and knowledge, facilitating a seamless transition to either the German education system or other international schools.
IB Diploma (11-12)
For the final years of schooling, we intend to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. This globally recognised qualification emphasises critical thinking, research skills, and intercultural understanding, preparing students for higher education and global careers.
Bilingual Instruction
Our bilingual programme enhances language proficiency in both German and English, fostering cognitive development and cross-cultural communication skills. This dual-language approach is integral in preparing students for a globalised world, allowing them to adapt to diverse environments.
STEAM Profile
We integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) into our curriculum to promote  holistic thinking and problem-solving as a real-world experience.  This interdisciplinary approach encourages creativity and collaboration, equipping students with the skills necessary for success in the 21st century.

Side Entrance Programme
Our side entrance programme is tailored for learners with limited or no knowledge of German, providing them with the necessary support to integrate into our bilingual curriculum. This programme ensures that all students can access our educational offerings and succeed academically.

Kindergarten & Preschool

(Age 3-6)
Our Kindergarten and Preschool programmes emphasise inquiry-based learning and cultural exploration, fostering curiosity and a love for learning from an early age.

We focus on comprehensive literacy and numeracy development, ensuring that foundational skills are established. Additionally, we prioritise social-emotional development, helping children build confidence and empathy.

Creativity and physical development are also key components, with activities designed to enhance both fine and gross motor skills.

Primary School

(Grade 1-4)
In our Primary, we provide a smooth transition from  Preschool, maintaining a continuous bilingual approach that strengthens language proficiency in both German and English.

Our learning landscapes offer flexible and engaging spaces that support individualised learning experiences.

The curriculum is designed to build on early literacy and numeracy skills while introducing more complex subjects in a balanced, holistic manner.

Secondary School

(Grade 5-10)
Our Secondary School continues the bilingual approach, taught by an international team of highly qualified teachers who bring diverse perspectives and expertise.

We systematically prepare students for higher education, with a curriculum that guarantees an easy transitions back to the domestic German system or other international educational systems. 

Diploma Programme

(Grade 11-12)
IGS Hefei intends to implement the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.  This globally recognised qualification is designed to develop well-rounded individuals prepared for the challenges of higher education and beyond.

While the IB Diploma is widely accepted by top universities worldwide, it’s important to note that specific course requirements must be met for it to be recognised as a university entrance qualification in Germany.

My name is Dirk Kehm, and I would like to introduce myself as a new member of the International German School Hefei. I have five years of professional experience, including four years abroad, primarily at international schools. I teach Mathematics, Physics, and Natural Sciences.

In my career, I have served as a STEAM coordinator and as a coordinator for German in subject-specific teaching, consistently contributing to sharpening the school’s STEAM profile while ensuring a language-sensitive approach. I am fluent in German (native language) and English.

My teaching approach is based on the idea that students should work on both local and global, real-world problems in open learning environments. This approach fosters creative thinking, interdisciplinary knowledge, and problem-solving skills. Teachers should support students as equals and guide them in their learning process to enhance their independence.
Dirk Kehm / STEAM-Coordinator
I am thrilled to join the International German School-Hefei, bringing 13 years of experience in Special Needs Education, Student Mental Health Counselling, and Cognitive Specialisation.

My work with diverse learners, including those with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and ADHD, has equipped me with invaluable skills in behaviour modification and classroom management. I am passionate about creating inclusive learning environments that cater to the unique needs and interests of all students.

My experience as a multi-level teacher, from kindergarten to grade 11, allows me to understand the developmental needs of children across all ages. I am also dedicated to student well-being, having served as a member of the Safeguarding Team and as a School Counselor.

My progressive teaching philosophy aims to empower students to explore their strengths while challenging them to grow and develop. I strive to create an engaging and fun learning environment that fosters globally competitive, respectful, and independent problem-solvers.

I am excited to become a part of the senior management team at the newly established International German School Hefei as new vice principal. My name is Tobias Steier and with a background in teaching English and History, I have spent the past seven years dedicated to education, including over three years in international settings.

Due to my qualification in bilingual education, I used to teach at a bilingual grammar school in Germany before transitioning to an international environment. As a native German speaker who has lived in anglophone countries before, I consider English my second mother tongue, which is well-suited for the international environment of our school.

In my most recent roles, I served as a quality manager, being a member of the extended school management, and therefore coordinated school development while also leading the Humanities department. I believe that curiosity needs to be fed and fostered, and self-reliance should be promoted, ensuring that each student’s unique talents are developed to their fullest potential.

My name is Anton Vidmar, and I am excited to introduce myself as a new member of the teaching staff. With four years of professional experience abroad, I have taught subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Natural Sciences, and Theory of Knowledge (TOK).

I have taken on leadership and coordination roles, including heading early science education and organising educational programs for preschool children. As someone who grew up bilingual (German and Serbian) and speaks English fluently, I understand the challenges and benefits of learning multiple languages, which helps me to sensitively and effectively address the needs of bilingual students.

My student-centred and problem-oriented teaching philosophy promotes creative thinking and problem-solving skills through realistic problem scenarios. I prioritise the individual needs and interests of students and create a motivating learning environment where they can fully realise their potential and think independently.

I look forward to bringing my experience and dedication to my new role and supporting the learners in the best possible way.
