Last Saturday, IGS welcomed students and families from both the Primary and Secondary divisions to its Orientation Day for the 2026/27 academic year, marking a wonderful start to the new school year.
Orientation Day provides our families with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the school and our daily routines. As new families join our community, the campus becomes even more diverse, bringing together different perspectives and experiences. Through this exchange, students are encouraged to develop into globally minded young people with strong critical-thinking skills and a sense of social responsibility.
A number of returning families also joined the event, warmly welcoming those who were new to the community and sharing their own stories and experiences of life at IGS. Meaningful connections quickly began to form across the campus.
Jessie Wu, Executive President of IGS, delivered her remarks and extended sincere greetings to every family. To give parents a comprehensive introduction to the school’s educational philosophy and curriculum framework, Tobias Steier, Acting Head of School, delivered a presentation covering the IGS team, a welcome and school overview, as well as the school’s distinctive dual-pathway structure.
The German curriculum follows national German educational standards, providing students with a strong academic foundation and supporting smooth transitions into the German education system. The Cambridge curriculum, meanwhile, offers internationally recognised qualifications and opens up a wide range of pathways to universities around the world.
Together, the two pathways provide families with a diverse range of options for further education, while offering a clear academic framework for the new school year and a strong foundation for each child’s international educational journey.
Good food and refreshments, combined with open and engaging conversations, helped strengthen the connection between families and the school and gave parents an opportunity to experience first-hand the welcoming and approachable culture of our campus.
Homeroom teachers then addressed parents’ practical questions in detail, covering topics such as daily timetables, ECA programmes, academic assessment, school bus services and home-school communication. Parents also had the opportunity to speak with staff individually during on-site consultations.
From informal introductions over refreshments and conversations between families and teachers to guided tours of the campus, the Orientation Day brought the IGS educational experience to life beyond the classroom. Every family was given the opportunity to feel welcomed, heard and valued, while participants from a wide range of cultural backgrounds came together to build a genuine sense of belonging within our community.

The new academic year has officially begun. We look forward to working hand in hand with our students and families throughout the year and to witnessing every child grow, flourish and achieve their full potential.
