World Mental Health Day at IGS: Small Actions, Meaningful Conversations

How can we tell when we need a break? What helps when emotions feel overwhelming? And how can a few words make a difference to someone else?

Our Primary and Secondary students explored these questions as IGS marked World Mental Health Day last Friday, guided by this year’s theme, “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.”

Move, Think, Connect

Students rotated through three interactive stations, MOVE, THINK and CONVERSATION, each offering a different way to manage emotions, take meaningful breaks and connect with others.

They also wrote messages of encouragement and kindness for someone who might need to hear them. One idea stood out throughout the day: small actions, whether pausing to reset or offering a few thoughtful words, can support our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around us.

Support That Lasts Beyond One Day

At IGS, mental health awareness isn’t limited to one day a year. Our Student Support Services team brings together school counselling, learning support, special educational needs coordination, safeguarding and pastoral care.

Through individual and small-group sessions, personalised learning strategies and close collaboration with teachers and families, we help students work through emotional, social, behavioural and learning challenges. When additional expertise is needed, we partner with external specialists and established organisations so that students and families receive the right guidance and support.

Keeping the Conversation Going

This day was a reminder that mental wellbeing is part of everyday school life: friendships, learning, facing challenges and knowing when to ask for help. We aim to help students build these skills and make sure they always know where to turn.

At IGS, awareness days start the conversation. Our Student Support Services make sure we can respond when a student needs help.
